Blake Shelton returning to TV after The Voice exit

Blake Shelton is stepping back into reality TV.

Six months after departing The Voice, the country music star announced his new singing competition series, The Road (working title), set to air on CBS next year. Co-produced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan along with Lee Metzger and David Glasser, the docu-series follows a music superstar as they travel the country, aiming to uncover the next big artist.

According to CBS’s announcement, “Singers will join the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts across venues nationwide. They’ll compete to win over local fanbases, securing their spot in the next city and staying on tour.”

Shelton is thrilled about the prospect of finding emerging talent. “I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my longtime collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton shared.

“Having experienced singing competitions and the music dream firsthand, I’m looking forward to giving new artists this platform.”

Sheridan elaborated on the show’s fresh, dynamic format: “There’s a revolution happening in country music.

Partnering with Blake to give new artists a chance to be part of that revolution is thrilling. This show isn’t about studio audiences and polished stages.

This is about hitting the road, performing, and winning over fans in real time. Get in the van, move to the next town, and make the crowd yours. Do it enough, and you become the next star. Simple as that.”

CBS promises that The Road will offer an authentic glimpse into the demanding life of a touring artist. With unprecedented behind-the-scenes access, viewers will experience the highs and challenges of life on tour as hopeful artists travel, perform, and strive to make their dreams a reality.

The Road is slated for a fall 2025 premiere.

This new series comes on the heels of Shelton’s departure from The Voice, where he completed his final season in May after 23 seasons.

Reflecting on his exit, Shelton told E! News in April, “I had a great run, but by that last season, it felt like the right time.”

For now, Shelton confirmed he doesn’t see himself returning to the iconic red chair, though he remains grateful for his years as a coach:

“Those were some of the most important years of my life, but as for returning to the job, I don’t think I’ll be ready to do that again anytime soon.”
