A country tribute band from Wolverhampton has grown so popular that they've been invited to tour the United States.
Luke Combs UK, a group of teachers from Wolverhampton and Telford and Wrekin, formed to honor the Grammy-nominated country artist. Their homage has even earned the endorsement of Luke Combs himself.
The group has been riding the wave of country music’s rising popularity and is now gearing up for their U.S. tour next year.
Lead singer Liam Price shared how much it meant to receive recognition from the real Luke Combs, saying, "We don’t try to sound American. We keep our Midlands accents and tell people we're from Wolverhampton. Audiences really connect with that authenticity."
The band’s members bring diverse backgrounds from education. Liam, the lead vocalist from Wolverhampton, is a high school teacher and girls’ football coach.
Drummer Dave is a percussion instructor in the Telford and Wrekin area, while keyboardist Steve, also from Wolverhampton, teaches piano and music.
Guitarist Dan is a traveling music teacher for Telford and Wrekin Music Service, and bassist Scotty B works with special needs students in Wolverhampton.
The real Luke Combs, a North Carolina native, achieved five No. 1 hits on the country charts with his early singles, and recently won CMA’s Single of the Year for his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” According to the band, Combs is also a fan of his British counterparts.
“They reached out to us—his management team and Luke himself—to give us their blessing and support.
That’s an incredible honour,” Price added. “It’s probably the highest recognition we could receive.”
