Garth Brooks addresses sexual assault lawsuit

Updated: Oct 9

Garth Brooks briefly addressed the sexual assault and battery allegations against him during his Inside Studio G Facebook Live show on Monday night (Oct. 7).

This marked the first time Brooks has spoken directly to fans about the accusations, although he had previously issued a formal statement via CNN when the lawsuit was filed on Thursday, Oct. 3.

During the beginning of his video, Brooks acknowledged the lawsuit but cautioned that he couldn’t go into detail due to the ongoing legal process.

“This thing is on. It's gonna happen,” he confirmed, noting that the lawsuit could take up to two years to resolve. He encouraged fans to stay calm, saying, “So my suggestion is, we all take a deep breath, just kinda settle in, and let’s hold hands and take a trip together.

"Because it is something that we cannot talk about. That’s all we can say about it.”

For the remainder of the 25-minute broadcast, Brooks did not discuss the allegations further. Instead, he shifted the focus to positive topics, including his work with Habitat for Humanity, his Las Vegas residency shows, and his appreciation for his fans.

He also spoke affectionately about his wife, Trisha Yearwood, praising her dedication to Habitat for Humanity and her skills with power tools during a recent project.

Brooks has consistently expressed his admiration for Yearwood over the years, and their relationship has come under increased public scrutiny in light of the allegations.

According to Us Weekly, an anonymous source reported that Yearwood and Brooks’ children believe in his innocence and stand by him.

The lawsuit, filed by an anonymous Jane Roe in California on Oct. 3, accuses Brooks of sexual assault and battery in two incidents from 2019.

Roe alleges that the first incident took place at Brooks’ home, where she claims he emerged from the shower naked, grabbed her hands, and forced them onto his genitals while making sexual remarks.

The second incident allegedly occurred during a trip to Los Angeles, where Brooks was performing at a Grammy tribute. Roe claims Brooks overpowered and raped her in a hotel room.

As the legal case progresses, Brooks has indicated that he will not be able to discuss the matter publicly but has reassured fans that he remains focused on his work and family.
