Tanner Adell made history as the first female country artist to perform at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards on Sunday, June 30, where she premiered her latest single, “Cowboy Break My Heart.”
Co-written by Adell, Akil “Worldwidefresh” King, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Will Weatherly, and Anthony Germaine White, “Cowboy Break My Heart” is her first release since signing with Love Renaissance (LVRN) in Atlanta.
“This song is simply a bop,” Adell remarked. “While I want my fans to have fun with it, the song also highlights the lingering impact of heartbreak.
The guy who inspired it was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, which is reflected in the title. He broke my heart, but it led to some great songs like ‘I Hate Texas’ and ‘Whiskey Blues.’
"I’m leaving that ‘Cowboy’ behind, but debuting the song at the BET Awards was an empowering moment.”
The new track follows her song “Too Easy” from Twisters: The Album and her cover of “Drunk In Love” for Apple Music Sessions.
Adell, a 2024 CMT Next Women of Country artist, also made her Billboard Hot 100 debut this year with her collaboration on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter collection, "Blackbiird."
Adell is set to perform during Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show, airing at 7:00 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock. She will also appear at various festivals, including Faster Horses, GoldenSky, and Ridin’ Hearts.
