Megan Moroney launches 'Am I Okay?' into stardom

When it came time for Megan Moroney to work on her sophomore album, the breakout country star found herself busier than ever.

After skyrocketing to fame with her double-Platinum debut hit “Tennessee Orange,” followed by successful singles “I’m Not Pretty” and “Girl In The Mirror,” Moroney has been basking in major industry accolades.

Her debut album, Lucky, released in 2023, garnered critical and commercial acclaim, amassing over a billion global streams. Recognized with a CMT and MusicRow Award, Moroney also claimed the title of New Female Artist of the Year at the 59th ACM Awards, where she was the most-nominated female artist with six nods.

Touring Success and Industry Acclaim

On the live front, Moroney has successfully completed multiple sold-out headline tours, including “The Lucky 2.0 Tour,” which sold out in just five minutes. After touring with Jamey Johnson and Brooks & Dunn, she opened for Kenny Chesney, charming stadium-sized audiences with ease.

Crafting Her Sophomore Album: Am I Okay?

Despite the pressure that often accompanies a sophomore album, Moroney was too busy touring to let it affect her. "There’s so much pressure around your sophomore album, or at least that’s what I heard it was going to be like," she told MusicRow. "I just kept writing songs about my life and songs that I liked. One day, I looked down and I had a whole album."

In the midst of her hectic schedule, Moroney crafted a 14-song album, Am I Okay?, that showcases her relatability, creativity, and wit.

The title track, written with Luke Laird and Jessie Jo Dillon, set the tone for the album, highlighting Moroney’s knack for storytelling. The album delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth, featuring tracks like “Indifferent,” “28th of June,” and “The Girls.”

Exploring Vulnerable and Empowered Themes

Moroney's music captures both vulnerability and empowerment. She explores deep emotions in songs like “28th of June” and “Heaven By Noon,” while tracks like “Indifferent” and “No Caller ID” reflect her strong, assertive side. "I always say that I have two sides. I’m either ‘emo cowgirl country’ or ‘bad bitch country,’" she says.

Highlight Tracks and Authentic Sound

One standout track, “I Know You,” deals with the pain of infidelity, while “Hell of a Show” offers a glimpse into the challenges of fame.

Moroney also highlights fun, arena-sized songs like “Man On The Moon,” which she enjoys performing live. Another notable track, “Noah,” inspired by a platonic friend, showcases her songwriting prowess.

Produced with Kristian Bush, Am I Okay? was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville. Moroney emphasized the importance of an organic sound, stating, "Kristian makes sure that we stay away from sounding like everything else."

Looking Ahead: Tours and More

With her new album ready for release, Moroney’s schedule remains packed. Following her stint on Chesney’s tour, she will embark on her “Georgia Girl Tour” in September, spreading her music to fans worldwide.

Conclusion

Megan Moroney's journey from her breakout hit to her upcoming sophomore album, Am I Okay?, showcases her evolution as an artist.

With heartfelt lyrics, relatable themes, and a strong connection to her fans, Moroney continues to shine in the country music scene. Her dedication to authenticity and storytelling ensures that her music resonates deeply, promising a cotinued rise and bright future for Megan.
