Last season, Luke Combs and his fantasy football league devised a unique punishment for finishing in last place. That punishment came to fruition during Combs' show in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday (Aug. 3).
Between songs, Combs paused to share with the crowd that he and his league had agreed that the losers would have to come onstage and sing with him in front of thousands of fans.
"I've been in a fantasy football league with some of my best friends from high school for 12 years now," Combs explained. "Last year, we decided that whoever lost would have to come onstage and sing with me tonight."
In a twist, the punishment applied to not just one, but two losers due to a scoring issue in the last game.
"Lucky for me, there was a scoring issue in the last game, and my two best friends in the whole world both lost, and they both have to come out and sing in front of you guys tonight," Combs said excitedly. "And it's about to happen. I'm so excited."
While Combs was thrilled, his friends were less enthusiastic. "They've been nervous about this for a long time," he admitted.
Nonetheless, they honored the bet and came onstage to perform a song of Combs' choosing.
"I want everybody to get a nice look at their blue suede shoes, because these boys are about to be walking in Memphis," Combs quipped, prompting cheers from the crowd.
What followed was an enthusiastic—if somewhat off-key—rendition of Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis."
Though they might not share Combs' singing talents, his friends brought plenty of stage presence and charm. One even signed his baseball hat and tossed it into the crowd.
This fantasy football punishment took place during the second night of Combs' Cincinnati stop on his 2024 Growin' Up and Gettin' Old Tour.
