Morgan Wallen denied Nashville bar sign

Morgan Wallen's This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen is scheduled to open in Nashville over Memorial Day weekend, but you won't see his name prominently displayed outside due to a decision by Nashville's Metro Council.

According to WZTV, the city council voted on May 21 to reject a 20-foot sign advertising Wallen’s bar on the side of the building.

"I don't want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who's throwing chairs off balconies and saying racial slurs," stated at-large Council member Delishia Porterfield (as quoted by the Tennessean).

This decision follows Wallen's arrest on April 7 for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church's Chief's bar in downtown Nashville.

He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges from that incident, adding to a series of legal and personal troubles.

Previously, Wallen was arrested on May 23, 2020, after being kicked out of Kid Rock's bar in downtown Nashville for reportedly breaking glass items inside.

Charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct were later dropped by prosecutors.

In February 2021, Wallen faced widespread backlash after being caught on camera using a racial slur during a 72-hour drinking spree, which led to significant career repercussions.

Nashville's council voted 30-3 to deny the installation of Wallen's new bar sign. Council approval is required for signs placed over public rights of way, such as sidewalks.

"He gives all of us a bad name," said Metro Council member Jordan Huffman. "His comments are hateful, his actions are harmful, and he doesn't belong in this town as far as I'm concerned. I'm tired of this city bending over to make anyone happy who makes a comment they want to. We continue to go down this road."

Morgan Wallen's bar is located at 107 Fourth Avenue North, next to the Ryman Auditorium.
